Craft x Tech 2026
Posted - 13 April 2026
Craft x Tech returns for its second edition, shifting focus to the Tokai region of Japan, where centuries-old craft traditions meet a new generation of global designers.
Founded by Hideki Yoshimoto and curated by Maria Cristina Didero, the initiative continues its core premise: pairing regional artisans with international creators to explore what happens when deeply embedded techniques are opened up to new contexts, materials and ways of thinking.
This edition brings together six craft traditions and six collaboration pairs.
Mino Yaki, Gifu Prefecture:
Yohei Ito, Fudogama x David Caon
Mino Washi, Gifu Prefecture:
Takanori Senda, Warabi Paper Company x Lanzavecchia + Wai
Arimatsu Narumi Shibori, Aichi Prefecture:
Hiroyuki Murase, Suzusan x Bethan Laura Wood
Owari Shippo, Aichi Prefecture:
Shigeyuki Ando, Ando Cloisonne x Philippe Malouin
Seto Sometsuke Yaki, Aichi Prefecture:
Mayuki Kato, Shingama x Eugene Kangawa
Iga Kumihimo, Mie Prefecture:
Tomoyuki Matsuda, Itogo x Atang Tshikare
Spanning ceramics, paper, textiles, enamelwork and braiding, each collaboration looks to reinterpret traditional techniques through contemporary perspectives, positioning craft not as static heritage but as an evolving, living practice.
Over the past months, creators have worked directly with artisans on-site, developing new pieces shaped through dialogue, experimentation and exchange. The final works will be presented soon, first in Tokyo and then in London.
The opening exhibition will take place at Kudan House, Tokyo, 30th May – 2nd June 2026.
We’ll be partnering with Craft x Tech to share the story as it unfolds.
