The Design Burger Award Winner

New Designers 2025

Posted - 28 July 2025

We took our one-of-a-kind trophy, designed in-house and made in collaboration with the brilliant team at CloudNC, to New Designers.

We had the honour and privilege of serving as judges of a partner prize at @newdesigners, an event that has been championing the future of design since 1985. We were looking for a project that demonstrated clarity, craftsmanship, and originality, from concept through to visuals and prototyping.

Our winner this year achieved this in buckets and was a well-deserving recipient of the trophy. Harry Colbert, at the Design Truths stand, was selected for his project Iris, for rethinking how we capture memories as multi-sensory experiences instead of just photos.

Developed in response to a brief from STEM tech, Iris goes beyond typical photo or video. It records ambient light, movement, temperature, colour depth, directional sound, and dynamic range, aiming to capture the full sensory context of a moment. Iris responds to the idea that traditional cameras often pull us out of the moment or flatten experiences into just sight and sound. Instead, it’s designed as an intuitive tool for staying present while recording richer memories. Back home, Iris docks into a playback device where gesture controls let you relive experiences in a more immersive way.

A big mention must also go to @wespeakdesigntruth. As university budgets shrink and the cost of living rises, Brad at Design Truth was able to fund and facilitate a space for seven talented students, including Harry, who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to take part in this year’s New Designers.

Congratulations @hgcolbert
