The Product Design 100 Pop-up

Posted - September 2026

In September, Design Burger took over Kachette Annex in Shoreditch for six days, as part of Shoreditch Design Week and London Design Festival 2026, bringing The Product Design 100 into the physical world for the first time.

At the centre of the space was our debut book, The Product Design 100, an image-led exploration of 100 contemporary industrial design projects spanning furniture, consumer electronics, lighting, homeware, transport and more.

Alongside the book, we brought a selection of featured products from its pages into the space, creating a physical exhibition around the publication and giving visitors the chance to experience the work away from the screen.

For six days, Kachette Annex became a temporary Design Burger home: part exhibition, part bookshop, coffee shop and meeting place.

The exhibition brought together products and furniture to create a space that felt less like a traditional gallery and more like a place to spend time.

A selection of products featured in The Product Design 100 were displayed throughout the space, giving visitors the opportunity to see them at full scale and experience the details and materials through touch.

Furniture from Allermuir and FLOOR_STORY helped shape the space, while materials from Antalis and Xanita and packaging from Zenpack contributed to the wider environment.

The space was also designed to be somewhere people could drop in without needing to attend a particular event.

Coffee and food were served throughout the week by Charles Bryant, with pastries and refreshments available alongside the exhibition.

The coffee shop gave people a reason to stay a little longer, to meet friends, catch up with designers, look through the book or simply take a break from the festival.

It became an important part of the space and, like the exhibition itself, helped make Kachette Annex feel like a temporary Design Burger home rather than simply an event venue.

On Thursday, we stepped away from the objects for an afternoon of conversation.

Together with our headline partners Vizcom, we brought 12 voices from across design, education, industry and creative practice together for four conversations around one broad question:

What shapes design culture today, and where is it heading next?

Moderated by Simon Hamilton, the programme brought together Simone Brewster, Ben Evans CBE, Oscar Pearce, Shay Alkalay, Luke Pearson RDI, André Poulheim, Tej Chauhan, Brooke Harrington, Tara Harcombe, Alex Philpott and Jon Cefai.

Across four conversations, the discussions moved through design culture, purpose and value, education, emerging technology, creative practice and the making of The Product Design 100.

AI inevitably formed part of the conversation, but it was only one part of a much wider discussion about how the role of the designer is changing, what the next generation of designers might need from their education, and how creativity, craft and critical thinking continue to shape the work we put into the world.

The talks were one part of a wider programme that ran throughout the week, bringing together music, listening, making and conversation alongside the exhibition.

We kicked things off on Tuesday with our Opening Night Party, celebrating the launch of The Product Design 100 with drinks, DJs, Tom Dixon on bass, while Bang & Olufsen supplied the sound.

Wednesday saw the space transformed for a Pitchblack Playback × Bang & Olufsen listening experience. The exhibition took on a different atmosphere for the evening, with the focus shifting from looking to sit back and listening whilst sat back and relaxing in Noho’s Move Chair.

On Friday, Vented London hosted a hands-on workshop, giving guests the opportunity to make their own concrete design collectable and explore the process of working directly with the material.

The exhibition was a chance to bring together many of the things that have shaped Design Burger over the years: products, people, conversation and a shared enthusiasm for design.

Most importantly, it gave us a chance to bring The Product Design 100 off the page and into the real world.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited Kachette Annex, contributed to the programme, exhibited a product, joined a conversation, made something, played music, served coffee or helped us bring the space to life.

We’d also like to thank our partners for helping make the exhibition possible:
